A BIT OF BARCELONA AT NOTTING HILL
Notting Hill is a district of west London that is definitely worth a visit. Not only for its famous flea market or beautiful colourful houses, but also for its cultural and gastronomic offer.
After a short walk around the neighbourhood, we discover Notting Hill Kitchen. A restaurant that specialises in delicious Portuguese tapas with Spanish elements; in other words, Iberian cuisine. Those from Barcelona can feel here at home, mainly beacuse the interior has been created by Sandra Tarruella Interioristas, a group of interior designers from Barcelona.
Sandra Tarruella together with her team have designed well-known restaurants in Barcelona, inclusive of legendary El Principal, Tragaluz, Bestial or Mordisco, which are only some of our favorites. What’s more, in collaboration with Isabel López Vilalta, Sandra designed El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, which in 2013 won the title in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards held in London, knocking Ferran Adria’s El Bulli off the top spot.
But going back to Notting Hill Kitchen, one must admit that the sobriety of the design along with surprising touches of colour and light creates a balanced and calm atmosphere, that “goes well” with the most exquisite palates. On the other hand, the use of natural materials such as wood, and the neutral colour scheme make the restaurant a warm place.
Gastronomically speaking, it has received very good reviews. Luis Baena, the chef, likes experimenting with the menu, creating dishes that are far from traditional. We can taste pink swordfish with seaweed and dashi creamed rice & azores cheese, slow cooked Iberian lamb, or Alentejo D.O.P pork cheek confit served with truffled bread and bacon crumble. The menu includes also more traditional dishes such as octopus, Pata Negra ham, and, of course, bacalao – a typical Portugese dish.
Notting Hill Kitchen is a perfect place to feed the inspiration and to wake up the creativity that is sleeping inside all of us.
